HEALTH: Sorry to Bust This Myth, But Passing Gas Doesn’t Help You Burn Calories

There’s been a myth floating around on the Internet forever that says you burn 67 calories every time you pass gas.  And I could’ve told you it wasn’t true . . . with the amount of wind I break, I’d be 102 pounds by now if it was for real.

But you don’t have to take my word for it.  A gastroenterologist at the University of Michigan just confirmed it’s totally false.  The average person passes gas 14 times a day . . . and burns exactly zero extra calories in the process.

Quote, “The only way you would achieve even a modestly quantifiable number of calories burned by farting is if you maximally strained your abdominal muscles to release a fart, an unlikely scenario aside from when exercising.”  (Men’s Health)
